still ...

the new issue of rolling stone has some more info on no line on the horizon, including one article that breaks down some of the album's songs.

there is also a second u2 article in rolling stone with interviews in the studio from "early" december. there was a live link to this second article on rollingstone.com earlier today, which is now dead. only one article is up there now, instead of two. but the in-studio article was copied by fans and you can read it here.

trying not to read too much into this snippet below...

"We start simple, we get complicated, and then we re-simplify it," says Eno, as he tweaks on his computer what he estimates to be the 80th incarnation of a song called "Breathe." "It's been a longer process, but I think it's compositionally stronger than anything they've done for a long time." That said, Eno is irked that the band has dropped some of the more contemplative and sonically adventurous songs it developed. "Tell them they're being stupid cunts," he jokes, after playing a lovely discarded ballad called "Winter."

Still, there are plenty of unexpected sounds...

I'm so sorry to hear from Bono about the Edge's tragic testicle deformity.

How have they discarded Winter? This song is in the Jim Sheridan film isn't it? Why do Q and RS have different tracks listed and different names, Stand Up and Stand Up Comedy. I think Q is more trustworthy caise RS sorta sucks.

Huh, Q magazine said Winter would be on a soundtrack for a movie with Tobey Maguire. Maybe it'll just be on the soundtrack and not the album.

yeah it's hard to tell. the rolling stone article mentions an early december visit to the studio so it would seem it is more up to date than Q except the Q article is way more extensive and seems better researched and obviously has the band's PR pawprints all over it, so i kind f trust Q's song titles more. but who knows.

If it's true that the band tinkers with the lineup until a week before the CDs are pressed, then both mags could end up wrong.

Is anyone else happy they scrapped the "more contemplative and sonically adventurous songs"? If I wanted that I'd just replay the 3 albums Eno did with Bowie and call it a day.

BTW I hope you're happy that I will forever think of the title for this album as No Lime on the Horizon.
