i love that song. his first album faces down was pretty much perfect. he wrote most of those songs on that first album when he was 17 and 18. that seemed like an important fact when i first learned it. i was in los angeles in a car and it was late night and the windows were down and one of my best friends was in the back seat and her boyfriend was driving. she had just moved across the country to move in with him. we were driving home and this song, sleep on needles, came on and how much do you love it when a song comes on and you love it, but you don't know who it is? it's the best. like finding money in your pocket. this was in early 2003, when stuff like that used to happen, before the blogs eliminated all the surprises.
i thought, this song is so perfect and beautiful. and i kept saying that. and my friend's boyfriend was pronouncing sondrAY lercKAY so amusingly and saying, well, sondRAY was 17 when he wrote that. AND norwegian. and then when we parked the car and got out, he gave me the cd and i said, cool, i'll have to buy this. and he said, no keep it, i'll buy another one. and so obviously i advised that my friend marry this sondre lerche fan boyfriend of hers immediately and eventually she did. thumbs up.
