these b-sides are fan-fecking-tastic

u2, window in the skies, cd single, version 2
1. window in the skies
2.
3.
zoo station, recorded at the last south american show (right before u2's tour postponement last spring), features a touching shout out to edge's little people (near the end) from, um, train conductor bono. kite has a didgeridoo. a few endearing miscues. a slightly random shout out to cate blanchett. oh, and a guitar solo/outro part that takes the song to another atmosphere.

Very cool - thanks a lot!
Aren't they great? I just got them yesterday and listened last night for the first time. I didn't know the Buenos Aires recording was the one with the shout-out to Sian and Levi, until I heard it. I remember listening to that clip last spring, along with the rest of the u2 blogosphere, deciphering it and deciding whether it was a "clue" or not. So sweet.
Anyway, you're right, they are kick ass B-sides! Maybe the boys are getting a clue that a live album might be in order??
>what is a cate blanchett?
ROFLBBQ! you are killing me. :'(
Usually didgeridoos give me nightmares involving Rolf Harris but I kind of like it on Kite. Who knew?
molly, i am with you on the live stuff, but really, they could so easily just be making some of the live shows available as downloads. it's so annoying that they don't do that.
I agree, C, very annoying! Remember back before Vertigo, Bono talking about people being able to download the show they just saw, possibly at a kiosk at the venue before they even went home? Whatever happened to that?
U2 could take some lessons from Pearl Jam and other bands who have been doing this stuff for years. But, ah well, I love 'em anyway. ;-)

surfing lessons?
;)
So I already have bootleg fan recordings of both Zoo Station and Kite. Are these new recordings better in sound quality? Like...soundboard quality?
soundboard quality?
yes.
The Who are offering CDs and DVDs of every show on their tour for purchase and the Grateful Dead (or "the Dead" since Jerry died) have done that too. That's almost too much stuff, though - I'd rather have the band sort out the good stuff and let me have it rather than sift through it all myself. Not to mention the $$$$$ it would cost just to keep up.
i definitely disagree with you on that bob. i would rather choose for myself than let u2 corp. do it. the fan community is very good at pinpointing the best shows, so i really don't think anyone would be forced to actually buy all the shows before deciding which one is best.
and i definitely wouldn't trust the band or their people to unleash the best stuff. how subjective is "the best" anyway? (very.)
there are dozens upon dozens of very high quality bootlegs that i waaay prefer to most of u2's "official" live releases. the fanatics are going to hunt down bootlegs of every show they want regardless, so it would be nice if soundboards were available for every show...
