i was thinking to myself, this could be heaven or this could be hell
so i was reading through the u2 story in the january, 2007 issue of q magazine, and edge (click here for photo of guitar genius) had these thoughts to share about the next u2 album:
"will there be a new record next year? we hope, but we don't know. we've got about five or six songs that are in good enough shape that we feel strong about them, but not in good enough shape that we could record them."
"it's going to be a very melodic record. it's interesting to me that some of the artists who were really glossed over in the early period of the band's existence i'm starting to 'get' more and more now. people like the bee gees. you listen to their work now and think 'my god, how brilliant were they as songwriters?' but totally undermined by a lot of bad hair and living in los angeles or whatever."
"and some of the things that the eagles wrote - amazing songs. it's a new-found appreciation for pure melody. that seems to be what we're all interested in at the moment."
last thing i remember, i was running for the door, i had to find the passage back to the place i was before...
a few things i missed this week:
youtube videos:
bono interview
one on one with bono. talking politics on japanese television. it is slightly boring, so i suggest that you watch it while imagining that the japanese subtitles are actually making fun of bono, a la stephen colbert. also, the screen is split 3 ways, which means a triple shot of yer man's hairdo.
bono video - world aids day
"we're gonna win." short clip of bono on japanese television. it's possible the announcers are giggling at bono when he speaks a little bit of japanese.
u2 television performance
brief intro with edge giving life advice (!), plus performances of vertigo and window in the skies, with u2 playing to a backing track.
also: yer man met with the japanese prime minister last week. nice to see bono breaking out the purple "i mean business" socks.

finally: here are a few awesome pics taken by chas pope in saitama, japan last thursday. more of chas's photos are here.

Just remember, c: whatever happens, be yourself.
:)
bono was trying to be all rock n roll, and edge goes off on the dad patrol....
i'm gonna buy you purple socks for christmas. ;) *
C, did I ever tell you that I've met Don Henley?
I'm not kidding btw. Really. Hotel California is genius. Seriously, genius. So is Witchy Woman, Best of my Love, and One of These Nights. Man, I love the Eagles.
do you think edge will start playing a guitar like this?
Ah the 70s. The decade that taste forgot...
It could be worse. They could suddenly become fascinated by K.C. & The Sunshine Band. Or Leo Sayer.
i like how pocket-sized bono seems right at home among japanese men of small stature.
Just because they cite influences, it doesn't mean they're going to bust out an Eagles album or some high-falsetto,tight-pants wearing disco.
Besides ... when did we stop taking anything any of them say about "our next album" with a grain of salt the size of Cleveland?
whaaat? no tight pants?
Multi-lingual Bono -- So cool!
My only Christmas wish is that Edge is just messing with our heads..
