pete yorn recommends...

...that you read this village voice article written by lenny kaye:

article: downer at the rock n roll club
as CBGB takes its victory laps, a lifer reminisces about the death of an era.

i caught pete yorn's in-store set at the virgin store in union square last night. it was short and sweet and free and came with reading recommendations. you can't beat that.

he played about 6 or 7 songs (i think), including the man, for us and closet. he closed the set with a rollicking rendition of georgie boy.

pete is cool on stage. he has a wry sense of humor. subtle even. musically, he can't be pinned down to one sound. he could break into a song by the smiths as easily as one by bruce. kind of like my ipod. he has a lot of clear influences, and you can hear them all, but he also has a unique voice. i like pete.

he played cbgb's last night, too. sorry i missed that. i bet it was good.

get much more on pete yorn, including downloads @ i am fuel, you are friends .

peace

yay! how did the sign go over?

:)

maybe this sounds weird, but I am so glad you caught the set, since I just spent some time with the man myself (if we can't be real life concert buddies, at least we can rotate musicians and see the same concerts in different states!). he does have a very subtle sense of humor and these eyes that just wait for you to get the joke.
