bono & bob dylan, 1984: part 2
continued from part 1....
bono interviewed bob dylan backstage at slane castle, ireland in 1984. the interview was ridiculous and pretentious and sweet. afterwards, bono was preparing to join dylan onstage for an encore in front of 100,000 people. neil mccormick, bono's old school friend, was there, and in his book killing bono, neil recalled the scene:

bono does not know the words.

dylan utilizes the sonny bono (bow-noh) pronunciation in his introduction of bono, who goes on to sing some blues scat vocals during this song.
that's all. except of course, there is this: view: bob dylan's itunes+ipod ad / and i recommend this: download: tom petty's aol session.

(*edited version*) - it seemed dylan had asked bono if he would like to join him for an encore. naturally, bono said it would be an honor, the problem was that bono didn't have the faintest idea what the lyrics to 'blowin' in the wind' were, and for that matter, had only the vaguest notion of the melody.bono also joined in on leopard-skin pill-box hat, but the blowin' in the wind performance is slightly more hysterical. bono's performance is pretty much a total train wreck. the sound quality is decent enough for a listen.a roar went up as bono took the stage with dylan, grabbed a microphone and began to sing......the first things to enter his head. dylan looked rather startled as bono improvised lines about the northern irish conflict....clearly bono wasn't going to let a little thing like not knowing the words stop him from performing the song.
it was all going so well. and then the band launched as one unit into the famous chorus, while bono, oblivious to the chord change, continued making up lyrics to the verse....dylan's head swivelled as he turned to look at his guest with an expression of complete eye-popping, jaw-dropping disbelief...i watched transfixed as bono hovered, on the verge of a spectacular crash, when, realizing his mistake, he started howling 'how many times? how many times?' like a blues mantra while the band brought the chorus home.
wisely, bono let dylan sing the final verse.
later, i caught up with bono and his wife ali among the backstage revellers. he was still flushed and ecstatic after performing to the biggest audience of his life.
"nice lyrics," i said.
"do you think anyone noticed?" said bono, grinning.

This story is hilarious!!! The link to the interview is equally funny. I wonder what Dylan thinks of Bono today? This is post of the week...and it's only...wed.
Bob Dylan and Bono are friends.
From Chronicles by Bob Dylan:
"One night, Bono, the singer from U2, was over for dinner with some other friends. Spending time with Bono was like eating dinner on a train—feels like you're moving, going somewhere. Bono's got the soul of an ancient poet and you have to be careful around him. He can roar 'til the earth shakes. He's also a closet philosopher. He brought a case of Guinness with him. We were talking about things that you talk about when you're spending the winter with somebody—talked about Jack Kerouac. Bono knows Kerouac's stuff pretty good. Kerouac, who celebrated American towns like Truckee, Fargo, Butte and Madora—towns that most Americans never heard of. It seems funny that Bono would know more about Kerouac than most Americans. Bono says things that can sway anybody. He's like that guy in the old movie, the one who beats up a rat with his bare hands and wrings a confession out of him. If Bono had come to America in the early part of the century he would have been a cop."
Great! I know the story but I have never listening the songs !!!!
