more u2 beach recordings

august 2008 beach clip update: click here

audio : 18 minutes of new u2
very demo sounding and of stalkerazi recording quality, but two things stand out: the third clip starts with (presumably) bono on the piano (yes! watch out chris martin); and the fourth clip sounds classic-rockish and melodic, and has a bluesy guitar solo. according to @u2, the source of the recording was a fan on the beach in eze, who taped the songs when bono was with friends out on his terrace listening to the music.

i have been at the beach this past week, too, but all the excitement we had were some gigantic jellyfish. (which i did not stalk, by the way, because i respect the privacy of jellyfish. obvs...)

**updated again**

thanks to dav for pointing out the unmistakable similarity between the alleged u2 beach clip #5 and a song on the strokes website (click on home videos, choose "construction at new office"). let the conspiracy theories begin.......

This is like a brand new medium, right? paparazzi audio...

Gigantic jellyfish would scare the crap out of me... Had a run-in with these little creatures in Greece one time. Not too pleasant...

Hope you're having a nice vacation!

Clip #5 is a song written by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes. No bull... if that's U2 actually performing it, then the lad deserves the credit...

Oh my god!! It *is* the same. It is. There's absolutely no difference. Um...so is it just a Strokes song then? *confused* I can't hear it *really* well, of course, but that sounds like it could be someone else singing, not Bono. Were the beach clips from All That You Can't Leave Behind this stressful/controversial?

I've listened to this about a dozen times now. I actually think its Bono singing. I can't seem to track down a whole version of the Strokes tune, which is called "Obstinate."

If you listen to them back to back you'll hear some very U2-esque additions to the song. I'm psyched! U2 and The Strokes are both top 5 in my book. I'm happy for Albert who is a tremendous talent... I'm hoping this winds up on a record with his name attached...

i know for a fact that this is albert from the strokes. they were listening to his new record on the stereo and it got recorded by the beach stalkers.
not everything they listen to at that house is U2.
