is that so wrong?

i am really starting to like the band she wants revenge. it appears they might exist for one reason and one reason only: to heavily rip off joy division. but is that so wrong? at least they're not ripping off kiss. or aerosmith. or some other such sucktastic band. and plus, they do their ripping off in such a synthed out dj way, that ya know, it's hard not to like. read what popmatters wrote about these guys here.

she wants revenge - out of control

does the war on christmas amuse you? it amuses stephen colbert. and he amuses me. a=b=c. or something.

stephen colbert, the war on christmas
follow link for video clip

do you want to see bono kiss adam? cause i do. and i think you do, too. watch the video here.

if you want to see paul theroux calling bono, well, um, a stupid idiot in a cowboy hat, read theroux's new york times op-ed article here. i believe theroux misrepresents some of bono's positions on foreign aid, but i will give theroux credit for creativity in his personal insults. he calls bono mr. jellyby in a 10-gallon hat, and says brad and angelina think they are tarzan and jane.

peace

any band that rips off joy division is a band that D wants to listen to! Thanks for the tip and the track. Good spot!

C'mon - they're not intentionally ripping off Joy Division. They're influenced by, just the same as Interpol. These comments were made just as Paul Banks et al launched their band and look where they are now. SWR is from hip-hop roots partially so they do add a dance element. Check out Bomb The Bass "Bug Powder Dust" - Justin's previous incarnation. I actually talked about these guys a few weeks back: http://d-i-r-t.blogspot.com/2005/10/she-wants-revenge.html :-) They were at Mercury Lounge recently and are back at Bowery B in the new year.

P.S. Was watching the Iconoclasts episode last night with Stipe and Batali - not sure if you caught it but your man is in there. :-)

ah - it was you who tipped me off to them - couldn't rememember which blog i first saw them on. thanks for the back story. it's just the vocal intonation that is so joy division, and i love it. but definitely the hip hop element does differentiate them....

i did not know b-man was on the iconoclast episode w/ stipe and mario. good looking out - what was he doing, eating?

Oh good, music all around. Joy Division was whiney shite, I don't need to hear them all over again. I mean, have you even listened to New Order's lyrics lately? Give it a shot and you will cry, I swear.

The Colbert clip redeemed you, though. All 80% of them are under attack, heh.

That Theroux piece is so short-sighted...as if sending computers to Africa will cause people to get too smart and abandon their homeland...such twisted logic is so hurtful to progress.

agreed. plus, he wasted so many words insulting bono, that it detracted from any positive argument theroux intended to make regarding actual policy. then he harps on "aid" and ignores data's focus on accountability, debt relief, fair trade, etc. oh well.
