sunshine and wine

the boys are in florida this week. bono, my dear, this is what i pray you get: sunshine, practice time and too much wine. why? because maybe, just maybe, this combo could indeed yield the mofo special. we'll hope and pray anyway.

the south florida sun sentinel has an article about how some progressive christians relate to u2.

another interesting article is the one charlie bertsch has written about sufjan stevens for tikkun magazine.

Stevens puts his audience in the potentially uncomfortable position of concluding that the wall between the fiction of his songs and the fact of his life is a wall with a door locked only by their belief that a sophisticated independent-label musician, the darling of big-city critics, can't really be the believer he seems to be.

the piece is about the supposed irony of sufjan's hipster christian existence. the author implies that many sufjan "fans" fell in love with sufjan before realizing what he was singing about. ...that he circulates in a world where the absence of irony can only be registered as the most ironic irony of all. the article cracked me up because it pretty much lays out sufjan's faith without even directly interviewing him or asking him about it. plus, it is quite judgmental of hipsters.

peace

That's what happened to me with Sufjan - dug his music at first and then realized that he was propogating Christianity so no longer now do I listen.

i haven't really seen any articles that actually have him explaining his beliefs very fully, it's always others doing it by piecing things together. but yeah, i think a lot of people feel the way you do.
