what day is it today?
scary day that today is, we have to report that not only is it halloween, but it is also our favorite drummer's birthday. that's right, the dorian gray of rock n roll is turning 44. sorry to frighten you, peeps, but it's true.

to celebrate junior's birthday, we're posting 2 of our favorite live tracks. warning: mr. mullen's intense rhythm has been known to result in serious injuries to those who cannot control how happy this makes them. (not that this has happened to me or anything.)
bad wembley stadium, live aid '85 (follow link)
and a further warning: beware of standing next to a u2 freak during the opening drum beats of a live version of gloria. there's about a five second window where larry starts and the rest of the band doesn't join in quite yet, and, personally, i use those few seconds to ecstatically punch the person next to me on the arm. 2,3,4!
gloria dublin, point depot, 12-26-89 (follow link)
gloria was one of the tunes listed on what the express-times called u2's most spiritual songs. not sure what i think of that list, but beth at u2 sermons definitely has an intelligent and enlightened take on the topic.
finally, for those interested in the other kind of spirits, it might interest you to know that apparently english people are pissed off that they might not be able to get wasted on public buses and trains anymore. brits are worried they will now be forced to drink & drive whilst traveling between 24-hour pubs. wow, when do these people sleep?
peace

Bad is an awesome U2 song & one of my favs... oh, ok all u2 songs are my favs but bad does rank in the top ten...
This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Let it go
now I am going to have that song in my head constantly for a week at least! Happy B'Day to Mr. Larry Mullen, may he always look like he is 30!
bad = good
I don't know why, but, a few years ago, the sick live version of "Bad" was sort of a soundtrack song to my life as I was getting ready to leave the U.S. to go to Spain for a semester abroad.
One of those feelings I'll never forget, and one of many reasons U2 rocks.
U2 will always be one of my favorites... I really dig your blog, keep up the good work.
